Hooj Choons is No More

Legendary UK label, Hooj Choons, have decided to close after a two year financial struggle to keep things up and running, and have gone into administration. The last release on the Hooj Choons label is Aphasia - "Acapulco"/"Say Hello". After being around record stores for 13 long years and with a string of 136 stunning releases, the label appears to be another victim of the slump in worldwide vinyl sales.

Brilliant artists such as Oliver Lieb, Energy 52, 16B, Nalin & Kane, Medway, Pete Lazonby and Peace Division have all called Hooj home at one stage or another.

Although, their highly successful online section - Hooj.com – that sold music from Hooj and other labels will continue to function as normal. Over the coming weeks, expect a name and ownership change with a whole new look to the site, featuring a wider range of music and also a DVD section specializing in quality independent films as well as music related titles. The site will also host an informal radio station hosting guest mixes and tracklistings.

Another function of Hooj.com is their download service. "The first promotional download service for DJs that I know of, that does what we do - so we're still learning as we go", says Bobby M from Hooj. With the first online vinyl promo service, having established themselves as of the better online record stores, and with the help of Microsoft's Windows Media Player, Hooj.com will be offering secure downloads of forthcoming releases, and back-catalogue items, from across the electronic / dance / leftfield spectrum.

A label like Hooj Choons will be sorely missed by the legion of fans that it conjured from the early years of Dance Music to the current day.
