The Sardinian producer creates an irresistible house/techno hybrid on 'Ocho Al Puma' that beautifully builds with rolling basslines and splintered percussion. The structure is simple and unconfused. The hypnotic lead synth line that drops mid way through is perfectly matched to the rolling groove and leads the electronic melody towards the devastating breakdown. This epic break slices the main looped groove with exact precision and when the track rolls back into action dancefloor mayhem is guaranteed.
The flip side track 'E'Arrivato L'Arrotino' (The Knife Arrives) is less immediate than 'Ocho Al Puma' but it is produced to the same high and exacting standards. Figoli adopts a jacking minimal construct, similar to Claude Vonstroke's production blueprint that has been going down really well lately. However ' The Knife Arrives' surpasses basic jack mechanisms thanks to the injection of sublime space research bleeps and vintage Orbital rhythms. These lush components transmit more warmth than your average minimal arrangement and confirm the unique qualities of a developing and innovative producer. Gumption is also an interesting label to watch in the future, with new material from the London based artist Ed Davenport imminent.
